Julie + Laura: Seeing Red! A Red Lion Inn Wedding on the Night of a Blood Moon

September 27, 2015

It’s not very often that I book a wedding only two months in advance, but that’s just what happened with Julie + Laura.  They were guests at a wedding we photographed this past May at the New England Aquarium (check it out here!).  Turns out they had some issue with their inital photographer, and said they were “wowed” by the work I did with Mark + Maya.  We even managed to squeeze in an engagement session before the wedding!

Julie + Laura have been nothing short of amazing to work with.  They both exude happiness, especially when they are with each other.  They allowed plenty of time for portraits of the two of them before the ceremony, so we headed across the street to the beach from the Nantasket Beach Resort, where they were getting ready.  They were patient while we set up our lighting equipment, and such good sports about heading onto a beach on a windy day a few hours after they both had their hair done!  As a former photojournalist, Julie came with her own suggestions, all while being confident in the work I was doing.

They added some unique elements to their wedding.  Guests got to raid a candy table for goodies to take home, and they named the area “Penney’s Candy” after their dog – complete with an adorable portrait of Penney about the table.  Instead of table numbers, they assigned each table a musical artist, which represented concerts they had been to together.  Going along with the music theme, the escort cards were made to look like concert tickets (and they were so well done!).

And did I mention it was a blood moon?  A very unique + rare occurrence for a unique + rare love.
